what if all the world you think you know is an elaborate dream?

I'm originally from Irvine, California, one of three cities in the 'Golden Triangle' of Orange County, the other two being Newport Beach and Laguna Beach. I go to school at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and really like it, most of the time. Santa Cruz and Irvine are two very different places, but I love them equally.
I like looking at maps, and I love geography. I love travelling, and get a large kick out of city limit signs, where they announce the population and elevation of the city you are about to enter.
I see myself moving back to Orange County when I'm done with this whole school thing. I used to be very counter-culture, but I'm not so much anymore. I think I'd like to become one of those rich white people everyone hates, but can't do anything about. Now, that is counterculture. Being untouchable.
I say 'Orange County' a lot to describe where I live. There's this concept of the 'Orange Curtain' down south, and it implies that there is very little reason to leave Orange County once you live there. And it's true, for the most part. Orange County seems to have its own self-contained lifestyle, of progress and leisure, surfing and killing time. And that's both a bad and a good thing.
I've been to quite a few places in the world, and still, nothing compares to what I have here in California. One time when I was visiting the UK, I was asked if I had ever seen snow before. "Of course," I said, "California has everything!"
I'm pretty conservative, politically, but I'm probably more liberal than the majority of Orange County. I welcome debate, but prepare to have me tell you when you're wrong. I'm very into drug law reform, particularly in the domain of medical marijuana and marijuana decriminalization and legalization.
Ok, now you go.
Some adult/controversial stuff in this journal, this is your warning.
